Symptom: There is water on the ground around the base of my toilet or under the water drips from the base of my toilet when I flush.

Usually, if the wax seal ring is lost. Replace the wax ring under the pot should solve this problem.

The first step in this repair is to turn off the water source and remove all water from the tub and toilet. A good tip is to keep a stop valve installed before the line of water supply forTank. This is very common in most residences. If there is no shutoff valve in the sea off the outside to make these changes to repair. Many times a valve in line to be installed where water enters the house. Water can be turned off, turned on or the street where the water meter is installed. A good maintenance procedure is to install a shut off valve right in front of the house where the water comes from the road. It 's also very convenient for the manufacture of otherrepair plumbing.

Next after all the water is shut off from the tub and toilet and water, disconnect the water supply to the tank. Next, remove the nuts from the bolts that hold the toilet bowl to the floor, to lift the bowl off the floor and away from the toilet flange (on top of the culvert). Inspect the flange for deterioration or damage. Cast iron pipe flanges rust over time and must be repaired or replaced. There are several options forRepairing a cast iron flange. Secret Of Success Is Focus And Perseverance

4 June 2010

The secret of success is focus. It is the one secret that ties everything together. According to the law of attraction, what you focus on is what you get. Therefore when you focus on all the qualities of success, you attract them to you. The more you do actions that lead to success, the more success you experience. The success of anything you do begins with focus. That’s when you call all your powers together for the accomplishment of a thing. Focus is an act of will which is the faculty that rules everything.

When you sit down to do a piece of work that requires thinking, you may not receiving inspiration at first. But when you focus on the work at hand, you will start to attract thoughts about it that you can work on. Then those thoughts will attract more thoughts and before you now it, you are in the flow. Each time you come to a stop, continue to focus and you will find yourself moving again. This is the secret of creating from nothing. You attract all the parts of the work together simply by using the power of focus.

The lack of focus is the reason for failure. When you are procrastinating, hesitating, dragging and stopping, it is because you are focusing on the stuff that takes your focus away from the stuff that contributes to your work. Focusing on the problems causes lack of focus on the solution. Focusing on the negative causes lack of focus on the positives. Focusing on other things causes lack of focus on the primary thing. Therefore if you want to achieve maximum and fastest results, keep your eye on the ball.

Perseverance is what you continually focus on. There are people who fail to persevere because they keep switching focus. They think and act in a certain direction and then they think and act in the opposite direction. Each time you move away from what you want, you erase the movement you have made towards it. Therefore it is not going to work if you keep moving towards what you want but are also moving away oftentimes. True perseverance is sticking in one direction most of the time all the way.

Many huge tasks seem impossible to tackle at one go. That is why many people do not undertake them. Only a few accomplish the great. Their secret is in working one step at a time. Think of it as attempting to destroy a large rock. You can’t smash it into smithereens with one hit if you are using a small hammer. But if you keep chipping away at it, you will start to see it come apart bit by bit over time, until finally it lays in many pieces before you. These is how your biggest dreams can be realized.

Sometimes a lot of work is done for a long time but there seems to be no results on the surface, that does not mean that nothing is being accomplished. There is an Asian Bamboo species that even after five years of watering, weeding and fertilizing is barely visible. Then in a span of about six weeks it grows two and a half feet a day to ninety feet and higher. It grows so fast that you can literally “hear” it growing. It was developing a massive root system that would later support it’s magnificent growth.

How fast your success comes depends on how much you focus in the right direction compared to how much you focus in the wrong direction. Focusing in the wrong direction is what causes doubt, fear and worry. When you allow yourself to be distracted by other things that catch your mind, you will attract less power to do the work that you are supposed to do. Therefore it is important to cut yourself from unhelpful things as much as possible so that you free yourself to focus fully for optimal success.

When you undertake a task to the fullest, put other things out of your mind. The more you allow your focus to wander away, the slower you will be in accomplishing it. Keep yourself in the state of mind for the work as much as possible and you will keep moving ahead with it. Focusing on doing what you do is how you practice putting the law of attraction in action. It’s also the way by which you develop and exercise your powers of reality creation. The greater you are at focusing the more successful you are.

All power is mental power, and the secret of mental power lies in the power of concentration. Mental power is the universal power that is fully available to all beings in the universe. But it is the quality of concentration that determines the various levels of manifestation of mental power between men. A gun loaded with a thimbleful of gunpowder will do more force than a barrel of it burned in the open air. It takes a greater force to overcome all other lesser forces. He who has a firm will shapes the world.

Focus is how you create the habits of success for yourself. The more you think thoughts and do actions that create success, the more you attract like thoughts and actions. Anytime you want to break the habits of failure, all you have to do is to hold focus on the thoughts and actions that create success. It is difficult at first as you will be drawn back by the energies of current thoughts and actions. But if you persist enough, you will break free like a rocket that escapes the gravitational field of the planet.

All these is for the development of your being. To experience success, you must be success. You must be the qualities of success. Success is simply the result of things being accomplished. There are many requirements in order for something to be accomplished. They are the qualities required to initiate, continue and refine a process until it is complete. The work towards success is to develop focus, courage, wisdom, will, faith, flexibility and perseverance in you to experience who you are as a divine creator.

Silver and Semi-Precious Gemstone Jewellery – The Ultimate Care Guide

3 June 2010

How to Care For Your Jewellery

Storage of Your Jewellery

Keep silver jewellery out of the air and light when stored to prevent tarnishing. A protective jewellery pouch, a lined box or just wrapping in tissue or soft cloth are all suitable.

Each piece of jewellery should be stored in a separate compartment to prevent scratching as a result of pieces knocking together. Gem-set jewellery will undoubtedly contain gemstones which are harder than silver and will therefore scratch the surface of the silver if allowed to jangle together. This holds true for gold as well.

General Care in Wear

Treat your jewellery with loving care and respect and it will stay young looking – like most women.

Washing Up, Spring Cleaning or DIY?

Remove your jewellery when carrying out cleaning or other chores. Cleaning fluids can damage both the metal and the gemstones. A miss-hit with the hammer could end a beautiful relationship with not just your engagement ring.

Going out?

Remember to put your jewellery on after applying make-up and the hairspray and avoid contact with perfume.

Going swimming?

Remove all jewellery before entering a chlorinated pool. If you’re contemplating a sauna, remove all jewellery as it will burn you when it heats up. Many gemstones are damaged by prolonged exposure to heat.

Going on holiday?

Most of us come off the beach on the first day with the 3 s’s all achieved – rings caked in sand, sea-salt and suntan lotion.

Nude sunbathing, as far as silver and gold jewellery is concerned, is a must!

Remember also that sand will scratch the surface of precious metals.

Tour de France or Running the Marathon?

Sweat will not enhance your jewellery and no-one will be looking at it anyway.

What is Silver?

Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and is sometimes referred to as “pure silver”. The remaining 7.5% is usually copper but can be other metal and is used to give this precious metal strength and durability. Silver which is 99.9% silver is too soft to be practical for most day to day uses.

Generally, the higher the silver content the brighter or whiter the metal but beware of antiquing effects that can make a piece of sterling silver jewellery or decorative silverware look dark.

Sterling silver will tarnish over time but with care and regular cleaning can be restored to its “good as new” sparkling condition.

How Do I Clean Silver?

Natural body oils, soap and regular daily dust can build up on your jewellery.

A mild soap in water is usually enough to clean it. If gem-set, use a soft toothbrush to gently clean the surfaces of the gemstones. Remember the backs!

Gently pat the jewellery dry. Do not use tissue or anything other than a jewellery cleaning cloth to polish your jewellery as unseen tiny hard fibres will scratch the surface.

If more serious cleaning is required, then use a good jeweller’s rouge or jewellery cleaning dip. However, if your silver is gem-set see below for advice on specific gemstones to be sure what is safe to use. Some cleaners which are ideal for sterling silver may be too harsh for the set gemstone.

Ultrasonic cleaners are not recommended. They can damage pearls and gem-set jewellery.

How Durable is My Gemstone Jewellery?

First of all a note about the hardness and therefore relative durability of gemstones.

To measure hardness, the jewellery industry uses the Mohs scale. This gem-trade standard, conceived by Friedrich Mohs in 1812, measures the ability of a gem or mineral to resist abrasion damage. Diamond at 10 is the hardest whereas talc at 1 is the softest. Popular gemstones like amethyst and citrine register 7 whereas rubies and sapphires register 9.

Most substances your jewellery is likely to come into contact with will be around 7 on Mohs scale so any gemstone with a hardness higher than 7 is unlikely to scratch.

Precious metals (silver, gold and platinum) are quite low on the Mohs scale – less than 4.5 – and will scratch.

How Do I Clean Semi-Precious Gemstones?

Turquoise

Mohs scale 5-6

Turquoise is chalky in texture and is to be treated as fragile.

Always store carefully in a separate compartment to avoid scratching and chipping.

It will scratch easily and chip if subjected to rough treatment. It does not like to be immersed in water and does not respond well to chemical contact. Either can cause it to change colour – usually turning more green.

To clean, use a damp cloth to wipe the surface.

Never use jewellery dip.

Never use an ultrasonic cleaner.

Lapis Lazuli

Mohs scale 5-6

Lapis lazuli is a soft stone and like turquoise will chip easily.

Always store carefully in a separate compartment.

To clean, use a damp cloth to wipe the surface. Do not immerse in water as this can remove the protective coating.

Avoid contact with all chemicals.

Never use jewellery dip.

Never use an ultrasonic cleaner.

Coral

Mohs scale 3.5 – 4

Coral is a soft organic gemstone and porous.

Always store carefully in a separate compartment as it will easily scratch or chip.

Avoid large variations in temperature and prolonged exposure to sunlight.

To clean, use a damp cloth to wipe the surface.

Never use jewellery dip.

Never use an ultrasonic cleaner.

Pearl

Mohs scale 2.5 – 4.5

Pearls are less durable than most gems. They are sensitive to acids, dryness, and humidity.

Avoid contact with any chemicals such as hairspray and perfume and wipe them clean with a soft cloth after wearing as natural body oils can discolour them.

Store them carefully, preferably in a pearl necklace box, a chamois bag or in tissue. Don’t throw them in a box with other jewellery as harder gemstones will scratch a pearl’s surface.

Cultured pearls can be washed carefully in mild soapy water.

Do not soak.

Do not dry in heat. Wipe dry with a soft cloth.

If worn often, restring every 2 years.

Larimar

Mohs scale 5 – 7

Store larimar carefully, preferably in a separate jewellery compartment, a chamois bag or in tissue.

Avoid contact with any chemicals such as hairspray and perfume and wipe clean with a soft cloth after wearing as natural body oils can dull the surface.

Avoid prolonged exposure to bright sunshine as this may cause colour fading.

Clean in mildly soapy water with a tiny drop of ammonia and use a soft brush. Rinse well and dry with a soft jewellery cloth.

Any cleaning preparation recommended for pearls is suitable for larimar.

Moonstone and Labradorite

Mohs scale 6

Moonstone gemstones are stored in oil before use in jewellery. This prevents the stone drying out and cracking.

It can be easily scratched and should be stored in a separate compartment

To clean, use a damp cloth to wipe the surface.

Never use jewellery dip.

Never use an ultrasonic cleaner.

Chalcedony and Onyx

Mohs scale 7

Avoid harsh chemicals.

Always store carefully in a separate jewellery compartment to avoid scratching and chipping.

Clean in mildly soapy water with a soft brush. Rinse well.

Rose Quartz

Mohs scale 7

Always store carefully in a separate jewellery compartment as despite its Mohs’ rating, rose quartz can chip and scratch easily.

Avoid prolonged exposure to bright sunshine as this may cause colour fading.

Clean in mildly soapy water with a soft brush. Rinse well.

Do not soak.

Do not steam clean

Topaz

Mohs scale 8

A durable gemstone unlikely to scratch or chip easily. However, always store in a separate jewellery compartment as it may scratch a softer gemstone or precious metal.

Avoid harsh chemicals and exposure to heat.

Clean in mildly soapy water with a soft brush. Rinse well.

Do not soak.

Do not steam clean

Never use an ultrasonic cleaner.

Amethyst, Citrine, Ametrine and Smokey Quartz

Mohs scale 7

Avoid harsh chemicals and long exposure to heat.

Always store carefully in a separate jewellery compartment to avoid scratching and chipping.

Clean in mildly soapy water with a soft brush. Rinse well.

Do not soak.

Do not steam clean

Should survive an ultrasonic cleaning.

Garnet

Mohs scale 6.5 – 7.5

Always store carefully in a separate jewellery compartment as garnet is brittle and despite its Mohs’ rating, can chip and scratch easily.

Avoid harsh chemicals.

Clean in mildly soapy water with a soft brush. Rinse well.

Do not soak.

Do not steam clean

All garnets except andradite (demantoid) should survive an ultrasonic cleaning.

Peridot

Mohs scale 6.5 – 7

Avoid harsh chemicals.

Avoid rapid changes in temperature and exposure to heat.

Always store carefully in a separate jewellery compartment to avoid scratching and chipping.

Clean in mildly soapy water with a soft brush. Rinse well.

Do not soak.

Do not steam clean

Never use an ultrasonic cleaner.

Simple Golf Tips For Beginners

2 June 2010

Golf is a game that requires patience, perseverance, and discipline. This is because one must be able to learn how to choose the right ball and the right clubs to use, how to grip the club and position the body as one prepares to take the shot. In addition, one must learn the best ways to swing and get the longest shots and tees. It is important to follow the rules to avoid frustration and in the cases of bad body positioning, injury because the sport requires one to use a good percentage of their body joints like the wrists, knees, and hips.

The first of these simple golf tips that one should learn is the fact that one must learn how to stretch and warm up before a tee off. When one purchases golf equipment, one does not need to spend so much money on gear and equipment. One should buy a few clubs that are not too pricey so that one can get more of them after finding out what their handicap is. One can purchase the golf gloves that have the imprinted holes that take on the pattern in which one must hold a golf club. These gloves will also avoid one from getting blisters as they learn how to putt.

One must learn how to swing and hit the ball without having the actual balls around and then use the balls once they are used to making the perfect swing. To begin with, one must learn how to grip the club. The shaft is at the tip of the club and one should use the fingers more than the palms to hold the ball. One should also choose between interlocking the pinky finger with the index finger on the other hand, overlapping the pinky finger and the opposite index finger, or holding the club in a hammer or baseball style of grip. One must also ensure that the feet are able to balance out the body weight without swinging forward or back. One must then ensure that, for males, the feet are place at shoulder length while, for the females, it is now a great idea to place the feet at hips’ length. This is because the female gravity center is lower than for a male and needs more balance, as she can swing wider than the male. Another of these simple golf tips is that depending on the length of the club, the ball must be farther away for short iron and closer for long ones.

When one is making a swing, there is the back swing that prepares one for the target and for this, one must ensure that the chest faces away from the target and the knees bent slightly. The ball must be hit through and not on top of it and the head must be lowered at all, times especially when the down swing is being taken and be sure to swing the body on its axis and face towards the tee with the chin on the right shoulder.

Understanding Golf – Staying in the Moment and Playing in the "Flow State" Or "The Zone" For Golfers

30 May 2010

Staying in the moment or the present is a transcendent instance in golf. I want to say it’s a transcendent action but that may imply that it’s a physical action and really it’s not. It’s an aligning of your mind to the very actions that you are engaged in – at that moment – without any thought which strays to either the future or the past.

If you smashed your thumb with a hammer, you may well be so absorbed with the pain that you have no room for any other thought, thus you are in the present, all be it an unpleasant one. As soon as you begin to think of consequences – “How can I play golf tomorrow with this smashed thumb!” – you are no longer in the present but have strayed into the future. This is an example where you are moved into the present automatically by an event, but intentionally moving your mind into the calm and focussed present, needed for golfing excellence, is not easy.

So now you know that staying in the present is a mental state which must be moved into and sustained, and that being fully present in the moment, will lead to fully focussed playing in the “Flow” or “Zone” state where peak performance is achieved.

The problem is that for the vast majority of golfers getting into and then staying in the present for even the short duration of one shot, is a serious challenge. Either we are worrying about that last bad shot, and will we hit another one, or we are nervous (terrified?) of the consequences of hitting a bad shot. Like watching the ball fly out of bounds in our minds eye as we dread the possibility of that swing and the consequences of that result. At the same time as we are digging this hole for ourselves, we may be pulling the dirt in on top of our own heads by analysing poor swings mechanically and trying to put that right on every swing. Paralysing.

Clearly the flow state, playing in the zone, is paralysed and along with it any chance of playing anywhere near what we are really capable of with unconscious performance. If you could play golf with as much confidence and as little conscious thought, analysis and worry as you do when you tie your shoe laces, you would play some very good golf.

Oh how we worry about the past events and imagined futures! The irony is that the only thing you ever have is RIGHT NOW, here in the present. Neither the past nor the future really exist, they are both just mental constructs made by our minds in order to “position” ourselves in relation to the present time or moment.

Imagine this. If you really did not care about the outcome of any golf shot, ever again, if you paid no mind at all to the consequences of hitting any shot, good or bad. If you just focussed on the process of steps (pre shot routine) that lead to your mind swinging your body and propelling the ball to your target, how do you think you would play?

By drilling a solid, repeatable pre shot routine that you use for every single shot in both practice and play, you are developing a major tool that helps lead you into a flow state, in the present moment for the 30 seconds or less that each shot requires.

Some of the quickest and most effective ways to enter a state of flow, or the Zone if you prefer to call it that, is to use “triggering” and “anchoring” techniqes from the field of NLP.

In addition, develop your own focus ability by choosing focus developing techniques that appeal to you. There are many available and a search of the internet should reveal a whole raft of choices. If you are really stuck I would be happy to give you some suggestions.

Industrial Hand-Arm Vibration

24 May 2010

Half way through a training course recently on the use of brushcutters or strimmers, the candidate came back into the workshop distressed because her hand was tingling through using the machine. I immediately diagnosed the problem as Hand-arm vibration.

What is hand-arm vibration?

Hand-arm vibration is transmitted from a work activity into someone’s hands and arms. This occurs when:

operating hand-held power tools, eg road breakers;

using hand-guided equipment, eg a vibrating compactor; or

holding materials being processed by a machine.

When is hand-arm vibration hazardous?

Regular and frequent exposure to hand-arm vibration can lead to permanent ill health. This is most likely if contact with a vibrating tool or workpiece is a regular part of someone’s job. Occasional or low-level exposure is unlikely to cause ill health.

What health effects does vibration cause?

Hand-arm vibration can cause a range of conditions called hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS). The best known is vibration white finger (VWF), but vibration also links to specific diseases such as carpal tunnel syndrome.

For some people symptoms appear after only a few months of exposure but for others it may take years. The symptoms are likely to get worse with repeated exposure and can lead to permanent damage and disfigurement. They can severely limit the jobs that someone is able to do, as well as affect family and social activities.

The symptoms include any combination of:

tingling and numbness in the fingers;

not being able to feel things properly;

loss of strength in the hands; and/or

fingers going white (blanching) and becoming red and painful on recovery (particularly in the cold and wet, and probably only in the tips at first).

The effects of these symptoms on people include:

pain, distress and disturbed sleep; inability to do fine work (eg assembling small components) or everyday tasks (eg fastening buttons); reduced ability to work in cold or damp conditions (ie most outdoor construction work), which is likely to trigger a painful finger blanching attack; and

reduced grip strength, which might affect the ability to work safely.

Who might be affected?

Tradesmen, Construction workers, Amenity workers, who work with hand-held or hand-guided power-tools and machines, such as:

Concrete breakers, pokers and compactors; sanders, grinders and disc cutters; hammer drills; chipping hammers; chainsaws; brushcutters or strimmers; and scabblers or needle guns.

As for my candidate on the brushcutter, I stressed that she was only on a training course, and had limited use of the machine on that day, that possibly a career in Amenity work may not be suitable for her. For our own safety as a company, we filled in an incident report that she had suffered tingling on using the machine, and our recommendations, which she signed. So you can see even from this experience, the significance it has to the person using the machines, but also on employers themselves who may be liable even 40 years later.

I have come across many people in the industry who are totally oblivious as to the cause of this Hand-Arm vibration, and some I have talked to who use the machines constantly say that they thought the problems they were suffering were down to athritis or some other ailment. As stated above, the effects over long term are significant.

How to Properly Care For Planer Blades

22 May 2010

Nothing cuts cleaner and faster than brand new planer blades, but after repeated use, they can wear down. Once time takes its toll, the blades will revert from cutting to instead chipping and tearing at the wood. This will create more work and may even cause a project to be ruined. There are a few simple steps to help keep the blades cutting like new for a very long time.

The first is to dress the edge before or after each use by using either a leather strop or sharpening stone. The strop method only works if done after each use of the planer. This helps to keep the edge at its original sharpness, much in the way a barber strops a straight razor during a shave.

The sharpening stone should be used sparingly so as not to alter the original edge too much. The blade itself should be kept against the stone at an approximate 22-degree angle to maintain the original chisel edge that was put on at the factory. Use oil when sharpening the planer blades to assist the stone in doing its job and use a stone that sharpens to a fine edge.

Planer blades that become cracked or chipped should be replaced immediately. These are a safety hazard and at the speed a planer runs, could crack further or even cause pieces to come off and injure the user. If mounted in a handmade handle, damaged blades can have a second life as a scraper that will last for a long time.

The sharper the planer blades are, the better job they do time after time. By dressing the edge and keeping them sharpened, the blades will provide many years of trouble free service. These blades and sharpening methods may be found online by conducting a brief search.
